WHY DO WE NEED IRON?
Iron is an essential mineral in the blood. It is found in your red blood cells as hemoglobin and in muscle cells as myoglobin. Hemoglobin transports oxygen from the lungs to all the cells in the body. Myoglobin stores, transports and releases oxygen to cells locally. Cells use oxygen and glucose for energy. If you don’t have enough iron, you may become low in oxygen and your cells will not function properly.
